About Me
Alexandra “Lexie” Orr is a queer, mixed Asian American filmmaker who explores her identity and cultural upbringing through her work. She often felt caught between worlds, struggling with questions of belonging. Through art and storytelling, she has begun to discover her true self and is finding her own voice. Creating visual and auditory representations of who she is has been revolutionary, allowing her to assert her identity without external judgment. It's a way to connect with her Filipino, Japanese, and American heritage on her own terms and to look forward to the future confident in who she is.

What inspired you to pursue film/media arts?
My parents wanted me to become an olympic athlete and engineer, did all the sports and classes, then after junior year having taken AP physics and AP Calc, said fuck that I wanna make silly things move. How do I do that, idk. With a fuck it we ball mindset I went into animation in college and realized that I can explore and express my identity through the medium. Growing up in an immigrant household where our communication style was nonexistent, filmmaking became revolutionary for me. It’s therapeutic and lets me unpack things lil Lexie felt like she couldn’t. Lil Lexie was also angry there wasn’t much representation of herself, now I can make that representation and make everyone gay :)  

What are you most excited about for this year’s AWC?
EVERYONES FILMS ARE SO FLIPPIN COOL AND CONNECTS WITH THE COMMUNITY SM WHICH IS WHAT WE NEED SO BAD RN. <3 AWC <3

What do you like to do during your free time?
Worship my girlfriend from the earth to the cosmos, pretend I’m in a WWE match against my dogs, destroy my lil brother in video games to remind him that he stinks, do backflips (don’t ask me to do it because I can’t), Pretend I’m in a mockumentary (I’m talking to the wall)

Unpopular opinion:
Free Palestine, Free Iran, Free the Philippines, Fuck ICE, STOP THE US WAR MACHINE. Also I hate driving, cars sucks but I do appreciate my lil shitty prius, shout out pickles <3. Marshmallows are lowkey nasty but I do tolerate it if it's in smores. Also I refer to cars using he/him pronouns because men should be objectified more.
