VC Receives an Organizational Program Grant from LA County Arts Commission

Visual Communications was just awarded a 2017-18 Organizational Grant Program grant from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors! We are happy to receive funding to continue our Armed with a Camera Fellowship program, which will be entering its sixteenth season this fall.

The Armed With a Camera (AWC) Fellowship for Emerging Media Artists nurtures the next generation of Asian Pacific American artists to capture their world, surroundings and outlook on life. Visual Communications Media (VC) works with the Fellows for six months and provides special training, mentoring, networking opportunities, access to facilities and equipment, plus a cash stipend to create four to five-minute digital short films. Visual Communications Media seeks to cultivate a new generation of Asian Pacific American artists committed to preserving the legacy and vision of VC.

A special program will showcase all completed projects at various VC exhibitions across the city of Los Angeles, including their premieres at the 2018 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) and other venues nationwide. As the LAAPFF is now an Academy Award®-qualifying festival for Short Film Awards, the Film Festival's Golden Reel Award will be eligible for consideration for an Oscar® in the Animated Short Film/Live-Action Short Film category, without the standard theatrical run, subject to compliance with Academy® guidelines. Narrative AWC films will be eligible for the Golden Reel Award.

Applications for the 2017-2018 AWC Fellowship will open within the next few weeks. Click here to learn more about the program.
