HBO Announces Finalists of 2018 HBO Asian Pacific Visionaries Short Film Competition

HBO announced the three finalists of HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries, a short film competition that provides emerging directors of Asian and/or Pacific Islander descent the opportunity to showcase their work. Filmmakers Maritte Go ("Remittance"), Huay-Bing Law ("June"), and Feng-I Fiona Roan ("Jiejie") will have their shorts premiere at the 2018 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival in May; where the first, second and third place winners will be announced.

Call for Artists: Visual Communications partners with Little Tokyo Service Center for +LAB Artist Residency Program

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with the Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) for its inaugural +LAB Artist Residency Program. Through this program, we are looking to co-create with a media artist (film/video, new media, photography, audio) who is willing to learn about the local spaces and places that we navigate. We are also looking for an artist to inspire and teach us through their form and experiences. Together, we hope to discover stories/histories that will shape our communities, our futures, and hopefully, us. The deadline for submission is January 15, 2018.

Meet Our 2018 Armed with a Camera Fellows

In its sixteenth season, the Armed With a Camera (AWC) Fellowship for Emerging Media Artists nurtures the next generation of Asian Pacific American artists to capture their world, surroundings and outlook on life. VC works with the Fellows for six months and provides special training, mentoring, networking opportunities, access to facilities and equipment, plus a cash stipend to create four to five-minute digital short films that will premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. Visual Communications is offering internship opportunities for Fall 2017. These internships offer a hands-on experience to work with one of the nation’s oldest media arts non-profits for and about Asian American and Pacific Islander filmmakers. Upon completion, interns will gain a better understanding of VC’s programs and offerings, as well as the field of arts non-profits in general.
