Visual Communications Awarded California Arts Council “Local Impact” Grant
Thanks to the California Arts Council for awarding funding to Visual Communications as part of its Local Impact program. We are able to continue our Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival for another year!
Visual Communications Participates in APAHM at Fox
On May 30th, 2018, Visual Communications was invited to participate in a screening and Q&A session as part of an Asian Pacific American History Month (APAHM) event at Fox Studios, with their APEX committee, organized by Jamie Escoto and James Choi.
Remembering Elizabeth Sung
We are saddened by the loss of Elizabeth Sung, a longtime friend to VC and advocate for APA filmmakers. We are thankful for her work on screen and behind the screen, as a patron to the arts and mentor to emerging artists. It was no coincidence she was the first person to be featured on our Humans of VC campaign.
LAAPFF2018 Announces Audience Award and Festival Jury Winners
Presented by Visual Communications, the 34th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) came to a close this past weekend and announced their audience awards for best films at this year’s film extravaganza that began on May 3 and ended on May 12, 2018.

Presented by Visual Communications, the 34th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) announced their filmmaker awards on the Closing Night of this year’s edition, which began on May 3 and concludes on May 12, 2018.

On April 28th, 2018, Visual Communications, along with four renowned filmmakers, was awarded the Golden Spike Award at the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California’s 43rd Annual Awards Gala.

The all encompassing annual film celebration is presented across Los Angeles in West Hollywood, Downtown LA, Little Tokyo, Koreatown, and Hollywood.

Ticket packages for the 2018 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival are now on sale! Choose from two types of ticket packages: the Festival Ticket 10-Pack or the Festival Pass. Both packages will save you a minimum of 10% on your tickets and you'll get even more of a savings if you're a Visual Communications member! Ticket package sales end May 2nd, 2018!
HBO Announces Finalists of 2018 HBO Asian Pacific Visionaries Short Film Competition
HBO announced the three finalists of HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries, a short film competition that provides emerging directors of Asian and/or Pacific Islander descent the opportunity to showcase their work. Filmmakers Maritte Go ("Remittance"), Huay-Bing Law ("June"), and Feng-I Fiona Roan ("Jiejie") will have their shorts premiere at the 2018 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival in May; where the first, second and third place winners will be announced.

VC to Receive Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts
We are excited to announce that Visual Communications has been approved for a grant by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman. We look forward to working with the NEA to finalize the grant paperwork and are appreciative of the agency’s support.
VC Supporters Danced the Night Away on Jan 27th
Last weekend, we hosted our "Dance the Night Away" fundraiser on Jan 27th at the Nishi Hongwanji Temple in Little Tokyo. The turnout this year was great! Thank you to everyone who attended the dance and supported the event.

Call for Artists: Visual Communications partners with Little Tokyo Service Center for +LAB Artist Residency Program
We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with the Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) for its inaugural +LAB Artist Residency Program. Through this program, we are looking to co-create with a media artist (film/video, new media, photography, audio) who is willing to learn about the local spaces and places that we navigate. We are also looking for an artist to inspire and teach us through their form and experiences. Together, we hope to discover stories/histories that will shape our communities, our futures, and hopefully, us. The deadline for submission is January 15, 2018.
Meet Our 2018 Armed with a Camera Fellows
In its sixteenth season, the Armed With a Camera (AWC) Fellowship for Emerging Media Artists nurtures the next generation of Asian Pacific American artists to capture their world, surroundings and outlook on life. VC works with the Fellows for six months and provides special training, mentoring, networking opportunities, access to facilities and equipment, plus a cash stipend to create four to five-minute digital short films that will premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. “SPEAK OUT” CWRIC Testimonies Revisited Dec. 2 in Little Tokyo
Nikkei for Civil Rights & Redress (NCRR) and Visual Communications (VC), in partnership with the Japanese American National Museum (JANM), will relaunch the 13-part video series “Speak Out for Justice” at a special program to be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017, 2:00 PM at the Tateuchi Democracy Forum at JANM.
