Meet a VC Intern: Inez Amihan Anderson

Meet our 2026 Getty Marrow Archives Exhibition Summer Intern, Inez Amihan Anderson!

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hi! My name is Inez (pronounced ee-NEZ) and I’m a rising senior at UCLA, where I’m pursuing my lifelong dream of being unemployed studying Film, Television, & Digital Media and Asian American Studies. As a second generation Filipino-American filmmaker and activist, I am inspired by my ancestors’ long legacy of resistance and seek to honor them through my work. I grew up in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi but currently live in Oakland, California (#yayarea) with my family and our two dogs, Lucy and Gretl. This summer, when I’m not lost in the VC Archives I’m exploring Little Tokyo in search of the perfect matcha latte!

How did you hear about Visual Communications and what drew you to apply?

Over the past few years, I’ve heard about Visual Communications and its programs from various collaborators, mentors, and faculty at UCLA. Earlier this year, I enrolled in a seminar about the L.A. Rebellion, a movement led by filmmakers of color which emerged from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television and ultimately led to the creation of VC itself. In addition to this shared history, my interest in Visual Communications’ commitment to both art and advocacy drew me to get involved.

What do you hope to learn from this internship?

As the Archives Exhibition intern, I’m excited to learn more about how the Visual Communications Archives can be used to preserve histories, engage communities, and tell stories. In doing so, I also hope to gain a deeper understanding of how to utilize archival research in my own work as a filmmaker.
