After a year and a half of virtual presentations, we brought back the 37th annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, presented by Visual Communications, to in-person theatres and celebrated the works of seasoned and emerging artists from September 23 to October 2, 2021. The largest Festival of its kind in Southern California and an Academy Award® qualifying Festival for the Short Film Awards, LAAPFF was a 10-day Festival that recognized the works of more than 140 artists, 19 countries, and 34 languages.

We understand that this Festival presentation was not what our artists had imagined when they began creating their projects, with a dream to openly celebrate their films with our communities. To create the Festival’s in-person moments to connect and converge, we are highly focused on protocols and procedures to keep us all safe. We ask you to be mindful and protective of each other. The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), presented annually by Visual Communications, today announced the first set of films that will screen as part of the 37th edition of the Festival, which will be a hybrid event taking place virtually and in person at select cinemas in the Los Angeles area from September 23 to October 2, 2021.

Visual Communications is proud to continue our partnership with HBO for the 5th annual HBO APA Visionaries Short Film Competition. Congratulations to this year's finalists: Urvashi Pathania (UNMOTHERED) and Jesse Gi (NEH)! Their films on the theme "Taking the Lead" will premiere at the 2021 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival on Sep 25, and debut on HBO Max on Sep 27.

Visual Communications has been approved for a Grants for Arts Projects award from the National Endowment for the Arts to support our annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. We look forward to being able to continue our work with the Festival.

In our continued work to create spaces for expression, engagement, and empowerment, we proudly kicked off the 36th annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, presented online from September 24 to October 31, 2020, reflecting a lineup that centered conversations that are most critical and compelling at this time. Here are some of the highlights of our Festival.

During May 2020, Visual Communications presented the first ever Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival Virtual Showcase: a kickoff to celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We presented 31 days of FREE programming, over 62 programs, 80 films, and 26 live streaming panels to keep our communities CONNECTED. Our programs reached over 83K people and were viewed from over 105 countries around the world.

In keeping with directives from our local, state, and federal health agencies, we are rescheduling the 36th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), originally slated for April 30 - May 8, 2020, to later this year.  We are committed to the well being of our volunteers, artists, and audiences.

Presented by Visual Communications, the 36th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) will be on April 30 - May 8, 2020 at select cinemas in the Los Angeles area. A key highlight Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Festival is the culmination of broad support from cinema artists and audiences alike. LAAPFF is also a proud Academy Award®-qualifying film festival for the Short Film Awards.

The 36th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), presented by Visual Communications (VC), returns on APRIL 30 - MAY 8, 2020 at select cinemas in the Los Angeles area. The Festival is currently accepting submissions in all categories including narrative, documentary, shorts, and emerging media. On September 15, LAAPFF will also begin accepting submissions for the 4th annual HBO APA Visionaries Short Film Competition.

The 35th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), presented by Visual Communications, announced their filmmaker awards on the Closing Night of this year’s edition, which began on May 2 and concludes on May 10, 2019.

The 2019 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, presented by Visual Communications, will feature over 130 short films during the nine day fest from May 2 - May 10. These cinema gems from around the globe featuring stories about love, family, heartbreak, friendships, and self acceptance are all part of the exciting line up.

The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), presented by Visual Communications (VC), announced their Closing Night film and their complete film lineup for the 35th edition today. The Festival’s Closing Night film features the World Premiere of EMPTY BY DESIGN, written and directed by Andrea A. Walter.

The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), presented by Visual Communications, is excited to announce the Centerpiece films and Special Presentations for the 35th edition of the  Film Festival. The celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander films continues throughout the nine day festival, from May 2 through May 10, 2019 with the Los Angeles premieres of a Sundance standout, a SXSW favorite, and a selection of special presentations looking both past and forward in Asian Pacific American film.
