Help Carry Our Founders' Spirit of Discovery Through Media

Dear Friend,

We have made substantial progress towards designing and producing the many elements that make up AT FIRST LIGHT: The Dawn of Asian Pacific America, a retrospective of VC’s early documentary work in still photography, film and video. Opening in May 2019 at the Japanese American National Museum, this exhibit encapsulates our collective quest for an authentic identity rooted in our histories fused with our vision for social and political equality.

From May to October 2019, thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds will experience the birth of the Asian Pacific American movement in Los Angeles as seen through our lens as media makers. Not only is historical documentation vital to our collective memories, but it also carries our spirit to the next generation.

We have raised $50,000 to get the exhibit off the ground. Now, we need an additional $25,000 to develop installations that bring artists, performers, scholars, and presenters together for critical public engagement programs.

AT FIRST LIGHT will be an emotional, evocative experience. We know this because seeing history come to life has moved us,especially as our Asian American movement activists and peers are still active and eager to share their stories.

We look forward to seeing you at the Japanese American National Museum next year!

Sincerely,
