Meet a VC Intern: Emma Cho

Learn about one of VC’s 2024 Summer Interns, Emma Cho, our Development & Communications Intern!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi! My name is Emma Cho (she/her/hers) and I am the Development & Communications Intern at VC this summer. I’m a rising senior at Occidental College, where I am a History major and member of the lacrosse team. I write and photograph for The Occidental, our college newspaper, and will also be the Arts & Culture Editor this upcoming semester. I love watching baseball, listening to K-pop, and sleeping.

How did you hear about Visual Communications and what drew you to apply?

I typically go back home over the summer, a four-hour flight from LA to the Chicago suburbs. But this year, I was interested in pursuing an internship in LA. Occidental offers a program called InternLA, which encourages students to apply to various LA-based nonprofit organizations. After reading about VC and their values, I knew that this was an organization I could see myself working at. As a History major, writer, and storyteller, I immediately was drawn to VC’s mission and work with the AAPI community. I have always been passionate about AAPI representation, especially in media, and have written various opinion pieces in my school newspaper advocating for more BIPOC in professional sports and the music industry. I love how there are so many programs and projects that VC houses (especially the Archives and Film Festival as a History major) because they give countless opportunities for AAPI artists and communities to be empowered and supported.

What do you hope to learn from this internship?

This is my first internship, and I’m eager to soak in as much information and experience as I can. I’m very excited to learn more about current and past VC and Los Angeles in general — using my resources to dive into AANHPI history, watch VC films and documentaries, explore (and eat in) Little Tokyo, and spend time with my awesome coworkers.
